Douglas Carmen, of Belvidere, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on Route 173 when a Kia traveling west attempted a left turn and hit the bike near milepost 7 in Bethlehem Township just before 6:45 p.m., NJSP Sgt. Philip Curry told Daily Voice.

Carmen was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries, Curry said.

Carmen was airlifted via North Star Helicopter to a local hospital with a landing zone at Heritage Park, according to the Pattenburg Volunteer Fire Company.

The Kia driver was uninjured, Curry said.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
